No. 5 of Seven Things That Make a Difference

No. 5 of Seven Things That Make a Difference in

Your Network Marketing Business

If you are in the process of building a Network Marketing Business, or considering starting one, there are skills you will need to develop and actions you will need to take to be successful in your business.

Some of these things are habits. Some of them are mindset. Others are things that you must use effectively to build a large business. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to reveal these 7 things to you.

Today, I present #5 – Consistency.

The underlying factor in all these things is a concept called “getting over the line”. Getting over the line means to develop the mindset that there is no turning back. You must have a rock-solid commitment to your business, your company, and your future so that you will never quit, no matter what challenges come up. Once you make that commitment, you must be laser focused and never turn back. You are committed to your dream and your future.

That’s getting over the line.

As a leader, you duplicate these 7 things to help the individuals in your organization develop their mindset that there is no turning back and to stay laser focused. These 7 things will dramatically increase the number of people in your group to get over that line.

They are:

1. Posture

2. Image

3. Events

4. Personal Development

5. Consistency

6. Commitment

7. Sacrifice

So, let's look at number Five:

Consistency

Consistency doesn't sound exciting like lead generation, Internet marketing, or recruiting techniques. But, consistency will make you rich in Network Marketing. The single biggest difference between the top earners and those that struggle is how they approach consistency.

If you’re serious about building your team, whether your new to team building, or have been building it for awhile, launch or re-launch your business with a "major blast" and then talk with two or three new prospects a day after that. Commit to doing this 5-6 days a week.

If you’re using an ad coop, or purchasing industry specific leads, even if you’re part-time, working just 15 hours a week, you can do this. You can be consistent!

This can be responding to a new lead by email. Talking to someone you know. Handing out or mailing a business information packet with scent samples. Or simply inviting them to join you on a conference call.

How many new people did you talk with today, yesterday, and last week?

Consistency means consistency. Do the same thing over and over with commitment.

New team members usually listen to at least one conference call a week for the first few weeks.

Then, life starts to get in the way. Successful leaders are on at least 50 conference calls a year.

They're consistent.

The same thing happens with business opportunity presentations. Some companies and teams have them more than one time a week. New distributors and team builders are always excited about these when they start. Then monotony sets in and they start making excuses not to be on the calls saying and thinking it’s always the same thing. They don't have guests that week. And so on and so on.

They lose their consistency. Plan to be on at least one presentation call a week.

The same thing happens with training events. After the first one or two, distributors not committed to their why, belief, daily actions and personal development, start to make all kinds of excuses why they can't attend this time.

They have given up on consistency. Plan to attend at least one training event a year.

So how are you doing? Are you consistent and talking to 3 new people a day? Are you attending one training call a week? How about one business opportunity presentation a week? Are you participating in 1-2 company events each year?

The consistent leaders do. Are you a consistent leader?

No. 4 of Seven Things That Make a Difference

No. 4 of Seven Things That Make a Difference

in Your Network Marketing Business

If you are in the process of building a Network Marketing Business, or considering starting one, there are skills you will need to develop and actions you will need to take to be successful in your business.

Some of these things are habits. Some of them are mindset. Others are things that you must use effectively to build a large business. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to reveal these 7 things to you.

Today, I present #4 – Personal Development

They are:

1) Posture

2) Image

3) Events

4) Personal Development

5) Consistency

6) Commitment

7) Sacrifice

So, let's look at number four:

Personal Development

This is the most important habit to have in the business. It’s also the one that most new people resist. Telling someone that they need to work on themselves isn't what they want to hear. What they want to hear are prospecting techniques, how to work an autoresponder, recruiting scripts, or lead generation strategies.

Recruiting techniques are useless if you aren't the kind of person that people trust. The have to believe in and want to work with you. To be successful in our business, you have to have a certain confidence and presence.

That comes from who you are - and that comes from personal development.

The first thing we talked about in this series was posture. You can't have good posture if you don't have the right mindset.

Our business is not easy. It’s simple, but not easy.

Sometimes you will talk with skeptical people who don't understand the differences between an illegal pyramid and a legitimate Network Marketing company or business.

You train and coach many people who never have been their own business or been their own boss before. Sometimes people quit and give up on their own dreams.

You have to be UP all the time.

Challenges are growth opportunities. Setbacks are learning experiences. And, adversity is necessary for building character.

Most of us deal with something negative with in our world, our country, or our jobs.

Many of our co-workers, friends and family members can be negative. They don't mean to be, but they can't help it. What you do is very foreign to them. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they deal with the world, our country and their jobs, just like us.

This can make it tough for us to stay positive.

You should strive to have 30 minutes of daily self-development time. Read something from a book, listening to an audio, or even medite. Doing this first thing in the morning, creates your attitude and belief for the day and determines the results you will get that day.

(If you watched or read "The Secret," this is a perfect demonstration of how the Law of Attraction works.)

Sometimes new distributors think top leaders never had anyone quit on them, that all their prospects say 'yes,' and they don’t face adversity.

The bare truth is, leaders face a lot more challenges and adversity. But, they do enough personal development work that it doesn't keep them from success. They never loose their focus. It doesn’t matter what happens, they never quit!

Personal growth is not a destination; it's an ongoing journey. It keeps your outlook positive so that negative things never outweigh the positive ones.

It’s not just about keeping you from ever wanting to quit. It is about dramatically improving the results you produce, each and every day.

If you talk with 10 people about your business on any day, you’ll get much more positive outcomes if you spent the 30 minutes before listening to an audio CD. It creates a different posture in your body, a different tone in your voice, and a different look in your eyes. It gives you a confidence and self assurance that shines through and shows you are a leader.

So, this is the fourth thing that top leaders do well that keeps them successful.

What do you think about the value of personal development now?

No. 3 of Seven Things That Make a Difference

No. 3 of Seven Things That Make a Difference in Your Network Marketing Business

Today, I present #3 – Events.

They are:

1. Posture
2. Image
3. Events
4. Personal Development
5. Consistency
6. Commitment
7. Sacrifice

So let's look at number three:

Events

Nothing gets people “over the line” better than events.

Events are the glue that bonds a team and company together. Events are the vehicle for giving recognition and expanding on training. Experiencing an event builds belief in what you’re doing. It’s the foundation of getting over the line.

You may be new in your business, and might think events don’t apply to you. The issue is how you promote and use events. Events may be held by your team, and others may be put on by the company.

Here is the one thing you must understand if you want to be a leader and grow your team.

You should attempt to be at as many events as you can. But make sure they are within your schedule, commitments, and budget.

As a leader, you may feel you already have belief. Leaders teach and lead by example. Events build your belief in your products, company, opportunity and industry, new partners and your team.

An event can be:

v A conference call
v A regional meeting
v Or the company convention

On average, if you get 25 people to an event, at least 10 people will hear something that clicks, where they have an ah-ha moment and it all makes sense.

It may be meeting other outstanding leaders in person and catching their vision. It could be a presentation from one of the top income earners. It may just be a comment from the person sitting next to you, or a conversation that happens during a break.

Often, it’s someone new giving their first presentation, or receiving an award.

Each person in your group will relate to someone and realize that the story they are hearing could be their story. And, they resolve to make it true. Then, they go out and make it happen.

It could be an idea, or a concept they’ve heard 10 times before, but this time something different happens. They had a different perspective, or got the one thing needed to set them into inspired action.

If you’ve been with your company or industry for some time, how often has this happened to you?

We never know everything! If you listen with an open mind, there is something to learn from everyone.

A saying that I’ve heard so often and that is so true is … “When you’re green you’re growing, when you’re ripe you’re rotten.”

Always be green and open to new learning experiences. This will move you forward and create growth.

Don’t get too ripe by thinking you already know everything. The moment you do, you’ll begin to rot and go backward!

Attend as many events as you can and encourage as many people to attend the events as you can. Learn to PROMOTE events, not just ANNOUNCE them.

Don’t wonder if an event is different than the last one. You will always pick up something new at every event. The events are there for you to use to build your team faster by presenting updated information that will propel you forward.

Never underestimate the value of social gatherings and events. The one you missed might have been the one you needed the most!

No. 2 of Seven Things That Make A Difference

No. 2 of Seven Things That Make a Difference in Your Network Marketing Business

Today, I present #2 – Image.

5. Consistency
6. Commitment
7. Sacrifice

Let’s get to #2:

IMAGE

Anytime you present your products or opportunity to someone, think about the “image” you present. Where do you first meet your prospects? If it’s online, use professional looking ads, not too wordy, no misspellings, bad grammar, or punctuation. Use what’s already created and is proven.

The same thing goes for a personal website, if you have one, or plan to, be sure the colors are easy on the eye, that it attracts the type of person you want to work with. Do the links work properly, and the photos blend with the colors and layout? Is the font style easy to read and professional? Again, check the spelling, grammar and punctuation.

If you use a networking profile page, or site such as “My Space,” “Face Book,” “Ryze,” or “Linked In,” be sure all of the above applies there too.

Carefully choose your words, photos, books, music and your friends you link to.

Your image will be determined by the people you know and network with, so choose carefully!

When you create information packets, flyers, email letters, anything you present to your potential business partners, make sure they look professional! No ink smudges. Use colors, text and photos that reflect the image you want to project. Use what is in place and is proven to work. Don’t try to re-invent the wheel. It’s already been done.

When you feel experienced in what works, if you decide to create something of your own, get approval from your company, input from your upline leader, and test only 10% of your effort with the “new thing” and keep 90% of your effort using what’s proven.

Time spent on a bad campaign can derail your momentum and progress. Remember the 90-10 percent rule!

Think of the image you present on your outgoing voice mail message. Be sure it sounds friendly and professional. It should state who you are, and that your caller is important to you.

Do not have children on your outgoing message for your business. If you want your children to be on an outgoing message for family and friends, then use a separate line for business calls. If your budget hasn’t grown to support two phone lines, choose to be professional and delay having children on your message until you can afford two lines.

Mind your manners and choose your attitude. For instance, your business phone rings and the caller may be business related. Your kids are screaming or crying, the dog is barking, music or television is blaring, or you’ve had a bad day, are tired, or not feeling well, let the caller go to voice mail.

Do what you need to do to adjust your attitude and then call them back. If you practice choosing your thoughts, your attitude, and positive outlook it will become more positive, more often.

Practice positive self-talk and positive thoughts. When you have negative thoughts and feelings, acknowledge them and then choose to replace them with positive ones.

Appreciate your challenges and obstacles. They present an opportunity for growth.

When you leave your home to go to work, run errands, or anything else, and you want to be “open for business”, be at your best. This doesn’t mean driving a fancy car, wearing designer clothes, but your car and clothing should be clean and pressed, not stained, frayed and wrinkled. Is your breath is fresh? Your hair styled?

You can be wearing blue jeans and still look attractive and professional, but it means dressing on purpose. Invest in your company’s line of wearing apparel if they have one and let your image present your business to those you meet.

You can meet a good majority of your prospects when you are going through your day-to-day life: At the video store, the supermarket. the car wash, at a party, having dinner with friends.

Be positive, friendly, and the kind of person that people like to be around. Practice good manners and treat others with courtesy.

Every time you leave the house, you create an image for yourself. Is the image you project one that would attract people to work in your business?

The next part of image is in your company and with your team. Here we’re talking about conference calls and company events.

When you’re on a conference call and the host has not arrived or people are introducing themselves, be professional. Share your first and last name, your state you live in, be upbeat and sound alive. Then mute your line to eliminate feedback and noise as others introduce them selves.

Avoid positive or negative chatting. Let the host guide the direction of the call.

At a live meeting, training, or event, be aware of your image. How are you dressed? How do you smell? Be professional, friendly, and courteous with everyone.

Your prospects may be there, even other peoples prospects, so present your best image. They’ll be there to do the same for you.

You share the dream in your business.

You share it with prospects, and, you share it by example with our team. The image you project determines whether a prospect joins our team, or another’s team.

The image you have with your team will dramatically affect how far you can go and how fast you get there. Is your image that of a leader? Do you project trust or create doubt? Do you sound and look like a professional?

You get to choose the image you present! How’s yours?

Seven "Things" That Make a Difference - 1 of 7

Seven Things That Make a Difference in Your Network Marketing Business

If you are in the process of building a Network Marketing Business, or considering starting one, there are skills you will need to develop and actions you will need to take to be successful in your business.

Some of these things are habits. Some of them are mindset. Others are things that you must use effectively to build a large business. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to reveal these 7 things to you.

For example:

The company discontinued your favorite scent.
USP lost your order.
Your website went down for two hours for maintenance and you had a prospect ready to
sign up.
Your sponsor quits.

It doesn’t matter.

5. Consistency
6. Commitment
7. Sacrifice

So let’s get to it.

Posture

Posture is important in your prospecting process. It is also important while working with your team. Posture is a combination of what you believe, how you act, and the confidence you have.

People who are over the line have posture. Posture is knowing what you really have. You speak to prospects with confidence, because you have no doubt in what you are offering to them.

You do not approach the business with an attitude of “I hope I don’t get rejected”, but instead an attitude of “Who can I offer our opportunity to?”

People with posture do not look for “easy” people that will join anything. They keep their eyes open for the most busy, ambitious, and successful people.

They do it with confidence and expect a positive outcome.

They understand that Network Marketing or MLM is a dream business. A business with:

No large investment
No employees
No overhead
Big profit margins
Low stress
Passive, residual income

They look for successful people who understand business. They have posture in their conversations with people. They do not chase after them, or beg and plead. They simply offer the opportunity to get involved with something extraordinary. They understand that what we have to offer can create an incredible lifestyle, time freedom and financial freedom that no regular job can offer.

Our business, products and pay plan offer an equal opportunity and a level playing field for everyone.

Each of us brings our own unique circumstances, backgrounds, and education to our business. I’ve seen amazing personal and professional success stories of people overcoming all kinds of challenges and obstacles.

Each of us must know our “why” we are doing our business. Our “why” must be clearly defined as to what this business can do for us, our lifestyle, our families, friends, and the values and causes we support.

It’s about what our business opportunity gives us, and what we can give back.

Our business opportunity can be the vehicle for change in anyone’s life, but those with many challenges to overcome must work even more on themselves with more commitment and focus to grow their business.

Some people have every obstacle imaginable to overcome when they start in a company. Because those forces, or people, are working against you to prevent your success, you need your “why” and vision even more.

You must be “rock-solid” in your belief, your “why”, and your vision. This will empowered you to conquer every obstacle in your path and reach your desired life of abundance.

Believe in the benefits of what our industry, products, and compensation plan offers.

This will give you the posture needed to talk with the most busy, ambitious, successful people meet. Intelligent, influential people with good teaching and coaching skills do very well in Network Marketing and MLM.

Present your products and business to those who express a desire to learn about them. Help anyone that seizes your opportunity and help them to work on themselves and their business. Also, keep your eyes open for those that “get it” and either have the skills already in place, or want to develop their skills and step into a leadership role.

Set your Posture now. Do not wait until you have a big team and a larger check to talk with people. Know the industry facts and the freedom it has to offer. Know that you have cutting edge products. Know the benefits of your product compared to what is in stores. Know what your pay plan can offer, and present it with confidence and belief.

Playing small will not serve you, and waiting for success to happen first, will not serve you either.

Network Marketing is the best way in the world for someone with no experience, little money, or a limited education to create financial freedom.

Even if you just started the business yesterday and haven’t made ten dollars yet, that does not diminish or restrict the potential your company, products and Network Marketing has for your prospects.

You have the best business opportunity in the world. Have posture and act on it.

Do not beg, plead, or chase people. Do not downplay what you have to offer.

For 60 plus years, Network Marketing and MLM has been helping people. The experience of your sponsor and leadership team is your shield. Our industry has helped hundreds of thousands of people live a better life and design their future.

Don’t you want be one of those people? Then let’s get started!

Be thankful and grateful for the abundant life of prosperity that is yours for the taking.

I know I am.
